Gamified Cybersecurity Awareness Training

Compliance training rarely changes behavior, and employees stay the weakest link because of it. Over five years, I evolved ECAT's gamified experience to stay ahead of modern threats and reach organizations worldwide.

5 years

100,000+ organizations

12 languages

Designed for people, not just job titles.

Employees across industries, roles, and technical skill levels, delivered globally and localized into 12 languages, from frontline staff to leadership.

I shaped the decisions, not just the output.

On a two person team, I led content strategy, script and storyboard development, and review cycle management, always working from what needed to change in employee behavior, not just what needed to be said.

Frameworks that flex with the work, not the other way around.

ADDIE, SAM, and Dick and Carey, applied depending on the scope of each update, from full content overhauls to smaller scenario refreshes.

Built with craft, directed by strategy, accelerated by AI.

Storyline 360, Adobe Character Animator, Photoshop, and Illustrator for production, paired with ElevenLabs, Midjourney, and Runway where AI could speed up the work, always under hands on creative direction.

A checkbox doesn’t protect anyone.

Most cybersecurity training exists to satisfy a requirement, GDPR, HIPAA, PCI, or whatever an insurer needs on file. Employees click through once, pass a quiz, and move on. What protects an organization is a habit of slowing down and noticing what’s off, not a pattern memorized for a test.

Practice sticks. Passing a quiz doesn’t.

ECAT was already built around decisions with consequences when I joined. My work was keeping that experience honest, sharpening scenarios to reflect how threats actually show up now, including AI assisted attacks, so learners practiced pattern recognition and healthy skepticism instead of memorizing red flags. I also condensed content to respect people’s time and expanded it through localization to reach a genuinely global, non-technical audience.

Interactive Mini-Game

This mini-game drops you into a decision point that mirrors what employees actually face. Choose how to respond, then see the consequences play out immediately, one version of the practice loop ECAT is built around.

Vishing Scenario Interaction

Interactive training module built in Articulate Storyline for ESET’s gamified cybersecurity awareness program, walking learners through a vishing (voice phishing) scenario styled to match the game’s aesthetic while reinforcing practical decision-making skills. Designed and scripted the scenario branching to reflect authentic social engineering tactics.

VPN Awareness Animation

Opening animation for the VPN section of ESET’s gamified cybersecurity awareness program, setting up the risk and hooking learner attention before moving into deeper instruction. Produced in Adobe Character Animator using a custom puppet workflow to keep production turnaround fast without sacrificing visual quality.
